Introduction Free trial

The introduction will give you an overview of 5S, its relationship with Lean manufacturing, and the benefits of 5S. You will also learn about Japanese origin of each of the 5S.

Module 1: Sort Free trial

This module covers the idea of ‘Sort’, the first step of 5S, through a game. It guides you to think about what needs to be sorted and how to do so in the office and manufacturing context. By the end of this module, there is a quiz to test your understanding.

Module 2: Set In Order

This module covers the idea of ‘Set In Order’, the second step of 5S. It discusses the importance of setting things in order to production and introduces some error-proof techniques that are applicable in the office and manufacturing setting. By the end of this module, there is a quiz to test your understanding.

Module 3: Shine

This module covers the idea of ‘Shine’, the third step of 5S. It is about the importance of regular maintenance of 5S and some factors to consider when doing regular maintenance. By the end of this module, there is a quiz to test your understanding.

Module 4: Standardize

This module covers the idea of ‘Standardize’, the fourth step of 5S. It walks through the importance of standardizing the procedures through documentation and methods to help others follow the procedures. By the end of this module, there is a quiz to test your understanding.

Module 5: Sustain

This module covers the idea of ‘Sustain’, the final but most difficult step of 5S. It discusses the commitment needed to drive continuous adoption of 5S and the steps to follow through. It also introduces about how 5S Audits can be done. By the end of this module, there is a quiz to test your understanding.

Conclusion

This module concludes the course with a summary of benefits of 5S towards management effectiveness, quality, safety, etc.

Course Instructor

Kent has been with Esquel Group since 1989, and is currently Director of Manufacturing for Esquel Vietnam. He has over 32 years of experience in the garment and textile industry, spreading over 6 countries. Flourishing in a collaborative environment, his career at Esquel has covered a wide range of functional roles and responsibilities, including QA, fabric manufacturing, SCM, IT, PPC and garment manufacturing. Kent has a Bachelor of Science (Hons) degree in Computer Science with a minor in Management.
